RASMUS STALBERG
Better to be hated
than loved, loved, loved for what you're not
You're vulnerable, you're vulnerable
You are not a robot
[01]
Name. Rasmus Erik Stålberg Andersen
Alias. Rasmus
Age. 17
Birthday. December 1
Gender. Male
Occupation. Pokémon Trainer
Badges.
Hometown. Blackthorn City, Johto
Play-by. Solomon Goldsmith from Blood+
[02]
Hair Color. Platinum blond
Eye Color. Somewhere between green and grey
Height. 6 feet 2 inches
Weight. 158 pounds
Description. Rasmus's looming, gangly build can best be attributed to a sudden, acute growth spurt dating back to last summer, though even as a young child he was always remarkably tall and tweedy. His smooth, pallid face is ruptured by a long, pointy nose and a surprisingly strong mandible, and his forehead is splattered with strands of silvery-gold locks that extend from his golden mop of a haircut. He describes his eyes as the approximate color of sewer water. His mouth is thin and small and hardly ever used. His long neck is convenient for craning and glowering-down-upon, though it sometimes seems to strain under the weight of the large head it has to support.
Rasmus is accustomed to dressing very nicely, a habit handed down to him from his father that he has steadily attempted to eliminate. His most common choice of outfit has now become a slate-gray hooded sweatshirt, deep blue jeans, and his favorite pair of brown boots, but for special occasions he will succumb to his black suit and purple tie, a combination that makes him appear considerably older than he is. Rasmus tends to travel light, though he does bring along a medium-sized brown backpack where he keeps his possessions, in particularly his infamous big blue inflatable tent, which he uses to set up camp when he's too far from the next town and the sun is beginning to set.
Rasmus's appearance generally strives to be as solid, consistent, and unremarkable as possible. Rasmus values comfort over finesse when it comes to how he looks, though (again) he will break this occasionally in order to wear his suit.
[03]
History. Rasmus was born on the first day of December seventeen years ago to steel mining businessman Erik Stålberg and his dragon-breeding wife, Elisabeth. He was the first born of three children; he has a 14-year old brother (Finn) and an 12-year old sister (Zara). Although he lived in Blackthorn with his parents, he was mostly brought up by his grandfather Magnus, who moved from Cianwood in order to be with his grandchildren. Rasmus's parents were hardly ever home; his mother was always at the gym or in Dragon's Den, and his father was always in the mountains where his business operated.
Nevertheless, his parents did hold a considerable amount of influence in his life. Being the first born, a disproportionate amount of pressure was put on him -- mostly by his father -- to succeed and set an example for his younger siblings. At age 13, he was enrolled in Earl's Pokémon Academy where his father forced him to study for three years, even though by age 15 he was already eligible to begin his journey. He was the strongest student in the school while he attended, but his father didn't expect anything less. He rather liked studying at the Academy, but after a while he had started to feel that it had become too easy.
A few days after his 16th birthday, Rasmus's father gave him a Pokémon egg that had been given to him as a gift by a longtime friend. Rasmus almost appreciated the gift, but he knew his father had only done it get himself rid of it. Nevertheless, when the egg hatched a week later to reveal a chunk of blue steel with a glaring red eye, Rasmus was positively overjoyed. His grandfather took him fishing on Route 44 the next day, and -- using his new Pokémon -- Rasmus was able to capture another Pokémon, this one a pale blue fish.
Rasmus began his Pokémon journey a few days before his birthday. He had started almost two years later than most people his age, but he felt the extra preparation would come in handy.
[04]
Personality. Generally, Rasmus is a cold, aloof loner. He inherited his stoic nature from his grandfather, who -- despite being the only person to truly love and care about him -- was never one to show outward affection. Rasmus doesn't often speak, and when he does, he measures his words so as to make them as efficient (and short-winded) as possible. Although he disliked his father growing up, he had an instant fascination with the steelworks. He loved the idea of building and creating something out of a chunk of metal. Growing up he would spend more time with his steel creations than with people his age.
Rasmus is distrustful of people when he first meets them, and it takes him some time to break out of his shell. He can been quite sharp-tongued and sarcastic when interacting with other humans. Solemn and completely humorless, he's not exactly the kind of person you'd go to if you want your day brightened by a joke. He is heavily practical and methodical by nature and is often the voice of reason when giddiness or capriciousness abound. One of his most positive traits is his ability to think straight when under pressure. Rasmus is a bit of a pessimist, and while this expectation of the worst can prove to be very useful, it carries with it a negativity that can bring people down.
Despite his outwardly icy personality, Rasmus is -- at heart -- a caring and determined young man with a strong moral compass. He takes losing surprisingly poorly and he always blames himself for his failures. He treats his Pokémon with the kind of love he wished his parents would've treated him, but he shows none of the same compassion towards his fellow humans -- at least not immediately. He's a strong and decisive leader, but he doesn't enjoy being in the spotlight.
